Behind the Scenes: Protected Haven

INTRODUCTION

Good day, I am Kenny/Ken, an eighteen-year-old 3D artist from India. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, I found the fantastic thing about CGI and visible results, and determined to strive it out for myself. I taught myself Blender and have been a 3D artist since August 2022. I began it as a interest however am considering pursuing it as a occupation.

INSPIRATION

I created this render as a submission for one of many weekly challenges held by  Clinton Jones. The subject was “islands,” and I’ve all the time been fascinated by the Dynamo Dream sequence by Ian Hubert.

So, I considered making a render that might be just like the sci-fi surroundings of that exact net sequence.

Process 1

SCENE BUILDING

I did not mannequin or texture something myself for this explicit render, however moderately used market property from Sketchfab to assist me construct the scene.

Process 2

I used two giant house stations for the background, islands cluttered with buildings for the midground, and hovercrafts for the foreground. I used the Ivygen Addon  to create the ivy.

LIGHTING

I normally use an HDRI solely to mild a scene and use lights provided that they’re extraordinarily essential.

Process 3

On this case, I solely lit the scene with an HDRI and used a dice with volumetric materials to evenly unfold out the sunshine throughout the scene, making a fairly flat lighting.

IN-PAINTING

After rendering, I digitally painted some clouds, which added some depth to the scene and made it seem like it was excessive within the sky.

Process 4

COLOR GRADING

Although a scene filled with foliage ought to normally have a heavy inexperienced color-grade, I needed to inform a narrative of nature-machine symbiosis and determined to make use of a moderately yellower coloration scheme, whereas the reddish blasts of jet hearth appear to eat away the greenish vibe of the ivy.

Process 5

FINAL TOUCHES

Lastly, I added some blur, lens flare, movie grain, and chromatic aberration to the picture to realize a extra real looking look.
