QbieShay: Sketch#46 Dragon Breath – Actual Time VFX

Yay first time collaborating!

I used to be impressed by this lovely drawing and determined to create a dragon’s breath for a fairy dragon!
Right here ‘s the inspiration: Magical orb by AlviaAlcedo on DeviantArt

Right here’s the ultimate outcome

I received lots of people serving to me and supporting me by the creation of this impact. Shout-out to @Nibilli for serving to on a regular basis, @jasonkey for the suggestions and the options on the flames and smoke, @hadidjah for encouraging me to enhance the suggestions, the opposite college students of the VFXApprentice course for sitting it by with me and final however not least Harmonie for suggesting the ultimate colour palette! Thanks a lot!

I labored on this for a full day and received thus far, however I’m not fully happy by the core flipbook for the fireplace, of which I’ll put up extra progress photos later.

The primary half that I labored on had been the brilliant swirls. I’ve tried quite a lot of completely different meshes

And in the long run settled with some extra linear shapes:

As a result of the swirls had been rotating all the time in the identical path, i mirrored the mesh and made a second particle system with the mirrored mesh.

I attempted an elaborate texture and a much bigger mesh, nevertheless it had a little bit an excessive amount of element:

Smoke isn’t tremendous fascinating: only a billboard quad with colour over life, measurement over life, and a dissolve texture:

I attempted a distinct flipbook. Extra fire-y, however too noisy (because of Hadidjah for pointing that out)

Remaining flipbook is finished! Proud of this one. It isn’t excellent by itself, however works nice in 3D :slight_smile:

Wow, I like the colors on this! I feel it seems to be tremendous good and matches the supply creature! Is it doable you go extra in dept with the primary flame/cloud impact?

Good animation! What software do you utilize to attract the flipbooks?

Calling this one executed! Thanks so a lot to Harmonie for the brand new color palette, it actually kicked it to the subsequent degree! That is presumably the one impact I’m most happy with

@Filo I used krita!

@Arkeus the fireplace is on a customized mesh and I take advantage of it in 2 particle techniques, @jasonkey steered to make yet another common, smaller, with slower particles, and one with much less particles and larger and sooner flames. Let me know in case you have different questions!
